I once ate a Flayed Swordfish And Guava Millefeuille that reminded me, in one sweet mouthful, of a Sea Interlude by Britten, a painting by Turner and one of Michael Holding's rampant, perfect-length balls.
Sniff your computer screen. What does it remind you of?

Roasted fruits? A Hockney? Cherry blossom?

No. It reminds you of nothing.

Computer screens look, smell, feel (even taste) like nothing. They're devoid of sensuality. People who stare at screens all day should be shot. But there are so many millions of them. There simply isn't time.

And, worse, so many screen-starers have beards. If there's one thing I'd love POSH NOSH to achieve, it's to rid the world of beards. Beards are the enemy of culinary excellence. Can a bearded man eat Flayed Swordfish And Guava Millefeuille? Oh yes. Many times! The first time is merely an overture. For days afterwards, he'll come back to haunt it, rehydrating barnacles of encrusted beard-fish with his salivating tongue.

Minty's Food Philosophy

Food has been a passport to another world for me, to be honest. Let's hope it is for you too.

It's important to say that Simon and I are working restaurateurs. We don't spend all day lounging round the tennis court at Crowe Hall, our house in Upper Berkshire which was built in 1685, as you know.

From Architect's Fish And Chips to Spotted Mick, all these dishes are available at our restaurant, The Quill and Tassel at Bray. Because you're reading this, you love food more than anything else in the world and fully support our No Beards and No Children policy.

Okay, water is awesome. We can’t deny that. And perhaps its best feature is that it can freeze (You know that "ice" stuff? That's made of water!). And not to mention that when frozen, it’s practically perfect for warm beverages.

But wait, there's a catch!

If the temperature doesn’t stay below freezing, then the hard water starts to melt and your drink becomes all watery and doesn't taste good anymore. It's all very scientific stuff. You wouldn’t understand.

Luckily, a few great soapstone workers in Perkinsville, Vermont have created Whiskey Stones. These little ice-imitators are specially designed to put a slight chill in your Whiskey. All you do is put them in the freezer for a few hours and then pop a couple into a glass of single malt. Once you're done, rinse, dry and do it all over again! And no need to worry about a watery drink, because these stones don't dilute (that’s the best part). Dylan Thomas would've loved these things. We hope you will too.

Dachstein Sky Walk (Austria)

Nicknamed the "balcony of the alps," the Dachstein Sky Walk is formally enthroned at 2,700 m above sea-level, high up on the 250 m vertical rock face of the Hunerkogel. A 360 degree panorama allows the visitor a view of Slovenia in the south to the Czech Republic in the north. The Sky Walk is distinctly higher than the platforms of the Niagara Falls or even the one at the Iguazu waterfalls in Brazil.
Aurland Lookout (Norway)

Architects Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen were commissioned to design a scenic rest-stop 2'000ft above Aurland fjord in Norway and came up with this beauty wining the first prize in Norwegian tourist routes competition. The outermost end of the horizontal platform - which curves to form the structure's support - is closed off by a sheet of glass, offering an incredible view towards the ground for all those with the guts to make the trip to the end.
Grand Canyon Skywalk (Arizona - USA)

This horseshoe-shaped pant-filler hangs approximately 4000ft above the floor and extends 65ft beyond the edge of the Grand Canyon. The Horseshoe shaped skywalk is constructed of glass walls 4 inches thick and visitors must don special scratch-proof socks as they partake in the view. The work is a true engineering feat that can hold up to 70 tons (roughly 14 African Elephants) and withstands winds of 100mph.
Suspended platform at Iguazu Falls (Brazil and Argentina)

While the falls themselves are magnificent, their setting in a huge subtropical nature reserve makes visiting even more enjoyable.

To fully appreciate their size and splendor it's worthwhile viewing the falls from the skywalk. The viewing platform is so close you are instantly drenched by spray and deafened by the roar of water plunging over an 80 metre cliff.
Auckland's Sky Tower (New Zealand)

Auckland's 328m Sky Tower is the southern hemisphere's tallest structure. It took 2000 tonnes of reinforcing steel, 660 tonnes of structural steel and 15,000 cubic metres of concrete to erect it. It can withstand 200km/h winds, earthquakes up to eight on the Richter scale and on a clear day, visibility is around 82km. The highest indoor point is Sky Deck, which has seamless glass giving unimpeded 360º views.
Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk (Australia)

This walk opened recently after five months of construction. Located at Knights Hill up high on the escarpment near Robertson in the Southern Highlands, the Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk allows visitors to walk among the rainforest canopy 25 metres above the ground on a steel platform. The 500m elevated walkway features cantilever arms that take visitors to the edge of the escarpment and offer inspiring views of the coastline from Kiama through to Shellharbour.
Landscape Promontory (Switzerland)

The landscape promontory is a suspended viewing platform designed by Paolo Bürgi as part of the Cardada project, a revitalization of the Cardada mountain that is expected to finish in 2010. The passageway is made of steel and titanium leads to the lookout platform with a view of Lago Maggiore. The landscape panorama is not the only thing that visitors are meant to appreciate. Symbols in the paving with accompanying texts in the railing provide references to history and literature.
Infinity Room at House on the Rock (Wisconsin - USA)

The House on the Rock, originally opened in 1959, is a complex of architecturally unique rooms, streets, gardens and shops designed by Alex Jordan, Jr. It is located in Spring Green, Wisconsin and is a regional tourist attraction. The Infinity Room at the House extends several hundred feet over the valley, without supports underneath, and is lined with over 3000 handmade windows.
Il binocolo (Italy)

Within the gardens of Trauttmansdorff castle in Italy you'll find this charming steel platform poking out through the trees, its name (meaning 'the binoculars') coming from the shape of the platform's small roof and the view of the surrounding landscape. Designed by architect Matteo Thun.
Top of Tyrol (Austria)

Top of Tyrol by Astearchitecture is a viewing platform located 3,000 m above sea level at the Stubai Glacier in Tyrol, Austria. Weathering steel was used in the construction of this structure to account for the extreme weather conditions so you can stand 9 metres away from the mountain with a perfect view of Stubai glacier.

Mark Twain was born in 1835, a year in which Halley’s comet was visible from earth. In 1909, he wrote, “I came in with Halley’s comet…and I expect to go out with it.” Indeed, he did. When he died on April 21, 1910, the comet was again visible in the night sky.

China is the birthplace of the first seismograph. Built in 132 AD by a man named Cheng Heng, it consisted of eight metal dragons holding eight carved balls over eight frog figurines. If an earthquake made the ground vibrate, the dragon facing the quake’s source would drop a ball into the mouth of its corresponding frog.

Poet and pre-Raphaelite painter Dante Gabriel Rosetti loved his wife, Elizabeth. How much did he love his wife, you ask? Seven years later, however, Rosetti found himself suffering from a really bad case of writers’ block, so he dug up her body and retrieved his poems. Recipe for Horchata de Arroz (Sweet rice beverage)

Horchata (or-CHA-tah) is a milky white, sweet beverage, I LOVE this drink, it is my favorite aguas frescas !!! You can also buy the drink already prepared or in a powder form. I prefer the recipe from El Salvador. The horchata found in El Salvador is primarily made from Morro seeds not rice, but Morro seeds are not available here in Kansas.

Makes 2 quarts

* 2 cups long grain white rice
* 6 cups water
* 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1/3 cup sugar
* 1 teaspoon vanilla

1. Soak the rice overnight in 3 cups of the water. Add the rice, soaking water and cinnamon to a blender and puree until smooth, 2-3 minutes.
2. Strain into a pitcher through a fine-meshed sieve or several layers of cheesecloth. There should be no grit or large particles in the liquid.
3. Stir in the remaining 3 cups water, sugar and vanilla. Adjust sugar to taste and serve well chilled.

* Substitute 3 cups of milk for 3 cups of the water. Or use evaporated milk for a richer, creamier version.
* Some recipes call for grinding the rice before soaking. Use a spice or coffee grinder to first pulverize the rice. Then add the water to soak. The soaking time can usually be cut in half when following this method.

RULES OF THE BLUES

1. Most Blues begin, "Woke up this morning..."

2. "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues, unless you stick something nasty in the next line like, "I got a good woman, with the meanest face in town."

3. The Blues is simple. After you get the first line right, repeat it. Then find something that rhymes... sort of: "Got a good woman with the meanest face in town. Yes, I got a good woman with the meanest face in town. Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher, and she weigh 500 pound."

4. The Blues is not about choice. You stuck in a ditch, you stuck in a ditch--ain't no way out.

5. Blues cars: Chevys, Fords, Cadillacs and broken-down trucks. Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or Sport Utility Vehicles. Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a southbound train. Jet aircraft and company motor pools ain't even in the running. Walkin' plays a major part in the blues lifestyle. So does fixin' to die.

6. Teenagers can't sing the Blues. They ain't fixin' to die yet. Adults sing the Blues. In Blues, "adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.

7. Blues can take place in New York City but not in Hawaii or any place in Canada. Hard times in Minneapolis or Seattle is probably just clinical depression. Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City are still the best places to have the Blues. You cannot have the blues in any place that don't get rain.

8. A man with male pattern baldness ain't the blues. A woman with male pattern baldness is. Breaking your leg cause you were skiing is not the blues. Breaking your leg 'cause a alligator be chompin' on it is.

9. You can't have no Blues in a office or a shopping mall. The lighting is wrong. Go outside to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

10. Good places for the Blues:
a. Highway
b. Jailhouse
c. An empty bed
d. Bottom of a whiskey glass

11. Bad places for the Blues:
a. Nordstrom's
b. Gallery openings
c. Ivy league institutions
d. Golf courses

12. No one will believe it's the Blues if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be a old ethnic person, and you slept in it.

13. You have the right to sing the Blues if:
a. You older than dirt
b. You blind
c. You shot a man in Memphis
d. You can't be satisfied

14. You don't have the right to sing the Blues if:
a. You have all your teeth
b. You were once blind but now can see
c. The man in Memphis lived
d. You have a pension fund

15. Blues is not a matter of color. It's a matter of bad luck. Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues. Sonny Liston could. Ugly white people also got a leg up on the blues.

16. If you ask for water and your darlin' give you gasoline, it's the Blues

17. Other acceptable Blues beverages are:
a. Cheap wine
b. Whiskey or bourbon
